About Leadsheet.app

Leadsheet.app is a platform to create, read and organise musical lead sheets — melody, chords, lyrics and metadata — in an open, portable text format.

The idea: a score is a text

The heart of the project is neumaRk (NRK), a textual language for writing music line by line. The NRK text is the song: readable, portable and independent of the application that opens it. The apps are simply the ways to write it (Write), read it (View) and organise it (Library).

Architecture

The project is built on a clear separation between content (the NRK text and its metadata), applications (the interfaces to work with it) and the runtime (the engine that turns the text into notation). This separation is what makes a song portable: the same text yields the same score everywhere.

Project status

Leadsheet.app is currently in beta and run by an individual in Italy. User data is processed within the European Union (see the Privacy Policy). The service is currently free (see Plans).
