Song¶
The song is the central entity of Leadsheet.app: a song is its neumaRk text — melody, chords, lyrics and metadata — together with the information that describes it. It's created and edited in Write, read in View, organised and shared from the Library.
Document name and title¶
These are two distinct things:
- the Name (document name) is the identifier by which you find the song in your library; it is unique among the songs you're the creator of;
- the title is an editorial metadata (the musical title of the work), which can also have a subtitle and alternative titles.
Changing them is independent: you can rename the document without touching the title and vice versa. Renaming can be done both from the Library and from Write.
States and versions¶
A song evolves through versions: in Write every save adds a version (Leadsheet.app never overwrites). A song is in the wip (work in progress) or stable state.
With a Release you create a new stable version: the intermediate work in progress versions are permanently deleted. It's a fixed point of the song.

Metadata¶
Besides title and credits (music, lyrics, arrangement, transcription), a song carries its key, meter, style, BPM, any lyrics (and their languages), a rating (stars) and tags (public and private) with which to filter and find it.
Sharing and access¶
A song is shared with the three kinds of link (fly / hard / reactive) and has an access setting (private / with link / with protected link / public): see Links & sharing. Who can do what with it depends on your role on the song: see Roles. A song made public enters the catalogue, where others can subscribe.
