Roles

A role is the relationship between you and a piece of content (a Song, a Book or a Playlist) and determines what you can do with it: edit it, share it, manage its access, or just read it.

The roles

Role	Who they are	What they can do
Creator	the person who created the content (only one)	everything: edit, share, manage roles, delete
Owner	an owner, close to the creator	edit and manage; the creator role can be transferred to them
Collaborator	a collaborator	edit the content
Viewer	read-only	open and read
Subscriber	subscribed to public content	open and read (from the catalogue)
Via book	in your library through a book you subscribed to	open and read

In the Library filters the roles are summarised as Creator, Can modify (creator/owner/collaborator) and View only (viewer/subscriber).

Managing roles

From the Manage roles panel (in the Library) the creator or an owner can:

• invite a person by email, assigning a role (owner, collaborator, viewer);
• remove someone's role;
• transfer the creator role to another person — note: by transferring it you lose all permissions on the content and can no longer manage it (the transfer stays pending until the other person accepts).

Anyone holding a role on someone else's content can resign from it at any time.

Access requests

If content is private, someone trying to open it without access can request it: the creator receives a notification (the bell in the Library) with which to grant or ignore the request.
